To start from the scratch... there are three basic things needed to click a photograph. First, light - natural or studio lights ; Second, equipment i.e. a camera - be it a film camera or digital camera ; Third, is a subject because without subject, there cannot be any photograph.

Lets start off with this photograph. In technical terms, this photograph has been taken on a DSLR camera. The light is falling on the subject (the girl) from the back side (left side of the frame) forming a shadow on the wall. The more the light - the darker the shadow.
